Scottish Bowling Association - Bowls Scotland

SBA Logo

The Scottish Bowling Association and Scottish Women’s Bowling Association have been working closely for the last 10 years to become a modern, focused and unified governing body by the end of 2010. Since the SWBA AGM in 2009 voted in favour of unification, the unification board has met frequently throughout this year to ensure that both parties have had regular and full communication as we work towards a single strategy and organisation which will reflect the joint goals of our sport.
Unification will ensure that the new governing body - which will be known as ‘Bowls Scotland’ - will create a streamlined and centralised administrative set up for the 21st century.
The progression to the new organisation is in line with European Equal Opportunities legislation which has already been passed and is being rolled out. Most other major organisations are already adopting these changes, rather than waiting until they are forced upon them. Embracing these principles will enable us to operate as a modern governing body with a single point of contact for partner organisations, clubs, members and supporters.
Unification affects change within the governing body and will not change how member clubs are organised or managed.
Bowls Scotland will retain its role as guardian of lawn bowls in Scotland and will provide advice and guidance to clubs as and when required, while keeping member clubs fully informed of any changes to legislation which may affect them or the running of their business.
